Pretty Food

How it looks, feels and smells is really important

Sometimes we will hear people to say that we eat through our eyes. Maybe this doesn’t make sense to you, but think about it. For example, we get attracted to the opposite sex when we look at someone we like. You don’t look at women or men that you don’t like how they look, do you? Something similar happens when looking at food; we eat through our eyes first. This is really important to have in mind when trying to change to a new diet, because if we are going to eat bad looking food, we will unconsciously think it will taste bad. This explains why a lot of restaurants put some green leaves at the side of your plate. It is to wake up your mind and to make you think it will be really delicious.

A big problem when people change to a diet consisting on more vegetables and fruits, is that they don’t make their food look good enough. They just serve a plate full of vegetables and maybe some chicken on them. Oh, but when they are preparing a couple of eggs and some bacon, they even make a happy face with them.

This can be explained with the fact that we tend to hide bad things in our life: our defects, what we have done wrong, bad decisions, and of course, our food. We tend to hide all of this because we are trying to forget how bad are all of these things. Restaurants know this fact, and they use it to sell more: they make their dishes look so healthy, so you forget about all the fat in it.

So, how can you use this to your benefit? Dress up all your healthy dishes, and make yourself think that is the most delicious dish in the world! Let’s discuss how can we do it.

It doesn't have to be a torture!

There are a lot of situations where our senses will lead us, it’s an instinct. If you are going to eat something that smells or looks bad, you will try not to eat it. Then, try to make your food look and smell good! Using some sauces in your dishes will be of good help, they hide pretty well the taste. Try using vegetables of different colours so they contrast on the plate. If your vegetables are runing out of color, try using some lemon juice to maintain it.

The texture is also really important. Some people tend to over look this aspect of food. If what you put in your mouth feels weird, there is a high probability you won’t want to continue eating it. Try not to over cook your vegetables to the point they are mush, make them look and taste as fresh as possible.

Another thing you can do is arranging well the food on your plate. A plate looking really full will help stimulate your brain and make it think you are eating a lot of food. Don’t put all the food just on one side, spread all of it so it looks like a big meal. Burning some incense in the dining room is a good idea, it makes you think your food smells better. But don’t use the ones that smell like fruit, they could make you feel more hungry. If you are smelling something good when eating, it can also help to decrease your appetite.

Something else you can do is drink a lot of fluids when eating. I know a lot of people that eat all their food first, and then they drink their fluids. This will just make you eat more food. Try to drink while you are eating, this way you will get filled with fluids and food, instead of just food. This is also really good to help digestion.

See? Changing to a healthy diet doesn’t mean you have to be telling your brain that you will be eating food you think it’s horrible. If you follow up all of these tips, you will have more chances on succeeding in your change of lifestyle.
